Great Lakes Naval Station Transportation to and from Chicago Airports
Naval Station Great LakesGreat Lakes has been transforming civilians into well trained, highly motivated Sailors Since it's founding in 1911. With fifteen service schools, support and tenant commands, and the Navy's only Recruit Training Command or "boot camp" there are more than 25,000 military and civilian personnel living, working, and training here at Great Lakes ensuring that we maintain the position as the Navy's largest training facility.
Naval Station Great Lakes is a dynamic environment where training occurs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It also continues to be a preferred duty station, which attracts the finest Sailors in the Navy to serve as Recruit Division Commanders, instructors, and many other support positions throughout the base.
The current Recruit Training Command has undergone dramatic recapitalization program that has created a premiere training environment. Barracks, dining facilities, classrooms and office buildings have been upgraded recently.
